Morning Train (Nine To Five) – Sheena Easton (1981)

Song Archive

I’ve been revisiting an album called Take My Time by Sheena Easton from 1981. Sheena Easton, a Scottish singer and actress, rose to fame after appearing on the British reality TV series The Big Time, which followed the rise of an unknown artist to stardom. While filming the show, Sheena recorded her debut single, “Modern Girl.” Initially, it was a flop, but after the episode aired, the song was re-released, and both “Modern Girl” and her follow-up single, “Morning Train,” shot to the top of the charts. She became an instant star and dominated the 1980s.

One of my favorite tracks on Take My Time is “Cry.” It’s perfect if you’re looking to lean into some sadness or angst. Another great song for that mood is “Prisoner.” Give them a listen!

Fun Name Fact: Before releasing “Morning Train,” producers worried it might get confused with Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5, so they titled it “Morning Train (Nine to Five)” instead.

Spanish Album Fact: In 1984, Sheena Easton released a Spanish-language album featuring duets with iconic Hispanic artists like Luis Miguel and Dyango. One track is a Spanish remake you can check out—it’s fantastic!

Song: “Morning Train (Nine To Five)”

Artist: Sheena Easton

Album: Take My Time

Year: 1981

I wake up every mornin’
I stumble out of bed
Stretchin’ and yawnin’
Another day ahead
It seems to last forever
And time goes slowly by
‘Til babe and me’s together
Then it starts to fly

‘Cos the moment that he’s with me
Time can take a flight
The moment that he’s with me
Everything’s alright
Night time is the right time
We make love
Then it’s his and my time
We take off

My baby takes the morning train
He works from nine till five and then
He takes another home again
To find me waitin’ for him

He takes me to a movie
Or to a restaurant, to go
Slow dancing
Anything I want
Only when he’s with me
I catch a light
Only when he gives me
Makes me feel alright

If you don’t like the song… too bad 🙂 You can just wait for the next one. All the info I find is from wikipedia/youtube/interviews/news articles/personal stories I’ve heard/random googling. Sorry if there are any mistakes.
