Still Crazy After All These Years has to be high on the list of my favorite albums. Every song is incredible and unique. Paul Simon truly shows his songwriting talent on his fourth studio album.
- Vocals: Paul Simon
- Fender Rhodes: Barry Beckett
- Bass: David Hood
- Drums: Roger Hawkins
- Woodwind/String Arrangements: Bob James
- Tenor Sax Solo: Michael Brecker
For the album, Paul used a variety of talented musicians, carefully selecting the perfect fit for each song’s individual style and feel. Some tracks feature members of The Swampers, the legendary studio musicians from Muscle Shoals in northern Alabama. Among them are Barry Beckett, David Hood, and Roger Hawkins.
Bob James, an exceptional keyboardist and arranger, also contributed to the album. Known for his jazz fusion work, Bob released several instrumental albums and can be heard performing the opening theme for the TV show Taxi.
Michael Brecker, one of the greatest saxophonists of the 20th century, added his brilliance as well. His career spanned from the late ’60s until his untimely death from MDS in 2007. He played across jazz, pop, and more, but two of my favorite performances are his solos at the end of James Taylor’s “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight” and Dan Fogelberg’s “Same Old Lang Syne.”
“Still Crazy After All These Years” captures such a wide range of emotions. It feels like Paul Simon is giving us a brief glimpse into his manic mind—only to quickly shut the door and lock it away. He doesn’t over-explain; instead, he leaves room for us to make our own assumptions and connect with the song in our own way.
I hope you enjoy this incredible track.
Song: “Still Crazy After All These Years”
Artist: Paul Simon
Album: Still Crazy After All These Years
Year: 1975
I met my old lover on the street last night
She seemed so glad to see me, I just smiled
And we talked about some old times,
and we drank ourselves some beers
Still crazy after all these years
Oh, still crazy after all these years
I’m not the kind of man who tends to socialize
I seem to lean on old familiar ways
And I ain’t no fool for love songs that whisper in my ears
Still crazy after all these years
Oh, still crazy after all these years
Four in the morning
Crapped out, yawning
Longing my life away
I’ll never worry
Why should I?
It’s all gonna fade
Now I sit by my window and I watch the cars
I fear I’ll do some damage one fine day
But I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers
Still crazy after all these years
Oh, still crazy
Still crazy
Still crazy after all these years

My name is Michael Sanchez and I’m an avid record collector and obscure song searcher. My goal is to post (hopefully) one song a day that’s been on my stereo/turntable frequently. If you don’t like the song… too bad 🙂 You can just wait for the next one. All the info I find is from wikipedia/youtube/interviews/news articles/personal stories I’ve heard/random googling. Sorry if there are any mistakes.
