1972 remains one of my favorite years in music, and I find myself constantly revisiting it. One standout from that year is the Eagles’ Peaceful Easy Feeling—my top choice if I had to pick an Eagles song to listen to on repeat.
This classic features Glenn Frey on vocals and acoustic guitar, Don Henley on vocals and drums, Bernie Leadon on vocals and electric guitar, and Randy Meisner on vocals and bass. Written by Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Jack Tempchin (who also wrote Already Gone), the song captures the laid back feeling that helped define the Eagles’ sound.
Peaceful Easy Feeling is part of the Eagles’ 1972 self-titled debut album, recorded over two weeks at Olympic Studios in London, England. With a production cost of approximately $125,000, the album launched the band into rock and roll royalty. Behind the scenes, there were heated debates about the album’s direction—Frey and Henley pushed for more rock elements, while others leaned toward a country style. This tension, however, gave rise to the band’s signature sound, enriched by their lush vocal harmonies.
Fun B-Bender Fact: Bernie Leadon’s guitar solo on this track features a B-Bender—a device that bends the B-string when the guitar is pulled down. This clever tool adds a country flavor to the solo, mimicking the sound of a pedal steel guitar. If you’re curious, check out this example of the B-Bender in action on YouTube!
Album Cover Fact: The album photos were taken at Joshua Tree National Park. Initially planned as a gatefold, the design was altered when their manager decided to glue it shut, believing the gatefold would be too confusing.
While I listen, this song transports me straight to the desert, sipping campfire coffee as the sun rises over the mountains. Listening to the sounds of the earth as the day starts over again. While you listen, I hope it takes you somewhere just as peaceful.
Song: “Peaceful Easy Feeling”
Artist: Eagles
Album: Eagles
Year: 1972
I like the way your sparkling earrings lay
Against your skin so brown
And I want to sleep with you in the desert night
With a billion stars all around
‘Cause I got a peaceful easy feelin’
And I know you won’t let me down
‘Cause I’m already standin’
On the ground
And I found out a long time ago
What a woman can do to your soul
Aw but she can’t take you any way
You don’t already know how to go

My name is Michael Sanchez and I’m an avid record collector and obscure song searcher. My goal is to post (hopefully) one song a day that’s been on my stereo/turntable frequently. If you don’t like the song… too bad 🙂 You can just wait for the next one. All the info I find is from wikipedia/youtube/interviews/news articles/personal stories I’ve heard/random googling. Sorry if there are any mistakes.
