A Case Of You – Joni Mitchell (1971)

Song Archive

About a month ago I posted about one of my favorite albums of all time. Joni Mitchell’s Blue. If you weren’t a subscriber then, you can check it out here. I’m back on Blue with a different track, one called “A Case Of You.” On this beautiful song you have Mitchell playing Appalachian dulcimer, accompanied by James Taylor on acoustic guitar.

I quoted it last time, but I love it so much I’ll put it here again.

In 1979, Joni Mitchell said this:

“(On) the Blue album, there’s hardly a dishonest note in the vocals. At that period of my life, I had no personal defenses. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes. I felt like I had absolutely no secrets from the world, and I couldn’t pretend in my life to be strong. Or to be happy. But the advantage of it in the music was that there were no defenses there either.”

Hope you enjoy!

Song: “A Case Of You”

Artist: Joni Mitchell

Album: Blue

Year: 1971

Oh, you’re in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

Oh, I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I’m frightened by the devil
And I’m drawn to those ones that ain’t afraid
